Analytikerkommentar

2026-10-23·David RimbeDavid Rimbe·Polight

poLight ASA (“poLight” or “the Company”) is scheduled to publish its Q3-26 interim report on October 29, 2026, followed by a Capital Markets Day in Oslo on October 30, 2026. Following an H1-26 in which total revenues of NOK 20.6m already surpassed the full-year 2025 level, focus in the Q3-26 report shifts to program progression rather than the headline top line. The report comes amid an intense product cycle across the consumer smart glasses market and continued strong investor interest in the share, which has risen from approximately NOK 10.2 ahead of the Q2-26 report to approximately NOK 17.4 based on the latest closing price (October 21, 2026). In Analyst Group’s view, the share price development reflects the Company’s first consumer AR/MR design-in, a visibly accelerating end market and considerable retail interest in the share.

Communicated purchase orders with stated Q3-26 delivery amount to approximately NOK 0.8m, while a further approximately NOK 1.9m is scheduled for delivery during H2-26 or September/October, in addition to any remaining deliveries under the April order, the timing of which depends on customer demand. As in Q2-26, when revenues of NOK 9.1m clearly exceeded communicated orders of approximately NOK 3.5m, NRE work and base deliveries not tied to announced orders are expected to support the outcome. At the same time, the delivery schedules of known orders, including the design-in order scheduled for Q4-26 delivery, point in our view to a second half weighted toward the end of the year. Announced order intake during the quarter was relatively moderate, which should be viewed in light of a design-in customer that, according to management, operates with minimal inventory and places orders against forecast. Our full-year 2026 revenue estimate of NOK 41.8m, set in our latest analysis update published in August 2026, implies H2-26 revenues broadly in line with H1-26, and we continue to expect 2027 to be the year in which revenue growth accelerates as consumer deployments begin to contribute.

Industry Development

The reporting period has been marked by an unusually dense launch cycle within consumer smart glasses, led by Meta. At Meta Connect on September 23, Meta broadened its line-up across price points and form factors:

  • the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta, from USD 449, with a 12MP camera and 3K video capture
  • the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio, from USD 349
  • the Meta Adventurer, from USD 249, within the own-brand Meta Glasses line
  • an expanded rollout of the Meta Ray-Ban Display to the UK, Canada, Germany, France and Italy
  • the Meta VR Glasses, a glasses-format device of approximately 100 grams with full-color passthrough, priced at USD 1,299.99 and scheduled for launch in spring 2027

The launches are backed by increasingly visible commercial traction. According to Meta’s Q3-26 report published on October 21, Reality Labs revenue amounted to USD 443m, down 6% YoY due to lower Quest headset sales, which were partially offset by continued strong growth in AI glasses revenue. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that glasses sales continue to grow rapidly and that Meta’s personal AI agent Muse will come to Meta Glasses starting in November. Meta expects Reality Labs losses to narrow to around USD 15bn in 2027 as investment is reallocated primarily toward AI, and will going forward launch new VR devices only in connection with major breakthroughs, such as the Meta VR Glasses. Zuckerberg also reiterated his view that VR will be the path toward bringing the physical and digital worlds together in everyday glasses. In our view, the commentary positions AI glasses as Meta’s near-term priority, while development toward more advanced glasses-format devices continues at a more measured pace.

On October 20, EssilorLuxottica reported Q3-26 wearables revenue growth of 20% to EUR 486m, noting that the figure did not yet include material support from the new products and that production capacity is not a constraint. IDC reports global XR shipments of approximately 3.5 million units in Q2-26, up 35.3% YoY, of which glasses accounted for nearly 85%, and forecasts unit growth of 26.3% in 2026, accelerating to 40.5% in 2027.

The competitive landscape is broadening in parallel. Snap has opened pre-orders for its standalone Specs AR glasses, Samsung’s first Android XR glasses, developed with Google and featuring a camera, are reportedly set for launch in November 2026, and Apple is reported by Bloomberg to be preparing camera-equipped smart glasses without a display, with a potential unveiling at WWDC 2027 and a release in late 2027. The development is not without counterweights. Camera-equipped glasses face increasing regulatory scrutiny in Europe, and the introduction of camera-free models shows that not all volumes will carry camera content.

For poLight, the relevance lies in the direction of the market rather than in any individual launch. As leading OEMs broaden their camera-equipped line-ups and the role of the camera shifts from image capture toward AI-driven perception, requirements on image quality, power consumption and form factor increase, and poLight notes that autofocus appears on the roadmap of several AR/MR players. At the same time, the Company points out that AR/MR glasses still largely rely on fixed-focus cameras and that competing autofocus solutions will be implemented depending on specifications and cost sensitivity. The pace of autofocus adoption therefore remains a key variable to follow.

poLight Operational Focus

In the report, Analyst Group will primarily focus on the progression of the consumer AR/MR design-in, for which the Company communicated an expected product release in 2026 in connection with the Q2-26 report. As a design-win is classified once the product is confirmed for market release, and launch timing is ultimately determined by the customer, any update on the timeline will be important to follow. A shift in timing would, in our view, primarily affect when the case is reclassified rather than the underlying opportunity. We will also follow the validation of the camera modules shipped at the end of Q2-26 under the October 2025 project with a top-tier U.S. consumer electronics OEM, as well as the TWedge® co-financing dialogues, where the CEO noted in connection with the September follow-on order that most customers evaluating TWedge® are also engaged with poLight on TLens®.

Analyst Group expects the cost base to remain elevated, reflecting continued investment in customer support, product innovation and organizational readiness. As accrued employer’s NICs on share options follow the share price, non-cash items may again weigh on reported EBITDA, which is why EBITDA excluding share option-related expenses remains the more relevant measure of the underlying cost trajectory. With cash of NOK 243.7m at the end of Q2-26, supplemented by approximately NOK 6.1m in proceeds from the share options exercised in August, poLight retains financial flexibility to remain in execution mode.

Going Forward

Analyst Group will primarily monitor the trajectory of the consumer design-in toward a confirmed product release, the composition of revenue between NRE and sale of goods, order activity across consumer AR/MR programs and the operating cost base. The subsequent Capital Markets Day, which features external perspectives on the XR market and wearable displays, is expected to provide further insight into the commercialization pathway, the readiness to support a potential volume ramp together with Q Tech and the Company’s technology roadmap. We make no changes to our assumptions ahead of the report and will return with an updated equity research report following the interim report and Capital Markets Day, where conversion of the consumer AR/MR design-in into a formal design-win remains the principal long-term value driver.
